I Stepped Away…And Here’s What I Learned

I did something I’ve never truly done before. At least not for joy.

I stepped away.

I shut the laptop. I paused the calls.

I stopped giving so much of myself to a world that—if we’re not careful—will take until there’s nothing left. (I mean it will suck you dry)

I lived that in the past, and I’m never going back.

I boarded a plane to Italy, not for work, but for waking up. To adventure, to feel, to reconnect with the version of me that doesn’t live on a screen, or a schedule, or in service to someone else’s emergencies.

And here’s the naked truth I learned…

If you don’t decide to take a break, life will eventually force one upon you when you crash and burn like I did in 2002.

It wasn’t easy. The world doesn’t clap when a woman unplugs.

But somewhere between the cobblestones of Florence and the wild coastlines of Cinque Terre, I remembered:

  • The more you slow down, the more you genuinely feel.
  • The more you feel, the more you know what matters.
  • And what you allow… will absolutely continue.

Let me be blunt: I’ve spent too much time giving to those who wanted free coaching, emotional labor, or just someone to blame. (or listen)

No more tire-kickers. No more soul-leeching. No more explaining my worth.

You want a better life? Then decide what you want.
Write that shit down. Make a f*cking plan.
And work on it. Every. Single. Day.

Not perfectly. Not with hustle.

But with sacred commitment to the human being you’re becoming.

Because this isn’t just about divorce. It’s about rediscovering who the hell you are when no one is watching.

Let me leave you with this:

  • Visit the place that heals you. Often. (I visited over 20 ancient Duomos)

  • Go to the place that inspires you. Without apology.

  • And never—never—let the sadness of your past or the fear of your future steal the joy of your present.

I’m back, clearer and more convicted than ever.

And if you’re ready to stop circling your pain and actually do something about it, I’m here.

But only if you’re ready to rise. Not repeat.

You always get what you settle for.
